𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐦 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬?

𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐦 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬? Major changes in the way humans think occur. For centuries, we can see history, mathematics, philosophy and science in the same way: holding on to assumptions and concepts. Then new thinking challenges the established order. Paradigm shifts are a valuable tool in many subjects such as the International Baccalaureate’s Theory of Knowledge course and the Extended Project Qualification. 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐊𝐮𝐡𝐧 It was an American philosopher of science who first created the concept of the paradigm shift which has subsequently become part of the English Language.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 Kuhn’s 1962 book argued that science does not steadily evolve towards a definitive truth. Kuhn identified stages were existing thinking could not explain phenomena and a new, better theory is proposed. This new paradigm is generally perceived as a closer to the perceived reality than the previous model.

𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐦 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬 Clearly, science is not the only area of knowledge where paradigm shifts take place. The pandemic is bringing a paradigm shift in sourcing. Recently, companies have scoured the globe for raw materials of the right price and quality. Now, firms are shifting the paradigm looking for shorter, safer supply chains.
